I also love Nikki's blog. Anyone can write about young adult books (either current or nostalgia) but not just anyone can do it well. I always look forward to seeing what she'll write about next!

I also love Nikki's blog, and I think she really nailed the reason why it draws in so many curious readers. As someone who blogs about nostalgia, I agree with her on why so many people are drawn to this type of retrospective genre. I was very into YA lit as a kid, but I mainly just blindly enjoyed it at face value. Nikki's blog makes me realize that there is more (or in some cases, less) to these books than I may have initially thought.

I am absolutely guilty of loving Sweet Valley High and Babysitter's Club, but looking back, they are pretty poorly written. They were more of a guilty pleasure at the time. She's right, though--Jessica Wakefield and Nancy Wheeler are probably the bitchiest characters in children's fiction and I'm ashamed to say that I used to idolize Jessica.

I love Nikki's blog. It brings me back to all the reading I did as a kid. Also, I totally agree about the Twilight thing. I only read 1.5 of those books and then stopped. I never stop a book midway, but those were just crap. I couldn't stand how weak and clutzy Bella was. Also, how does Stephanie Meyer get soo many pages out of what is basically- "I love you, but I shouldn't have you." back and forth, back and forth.
My very favorite YA author is Mary Downing Hahn. In college, (El Ed major, Reading Minor), I did a huge project on her. My professor had never heard of her, but after my project read her books. He turned his wife, who was a middle school teacher, on to her. After that MDH was required reading in her class!
Way to go Nikki- keep publishing fun and snarky stuff!
